Habitat Tree Tee - Kids

35.00

100% organic ring-spun combed cotton, 155GSM

Home..…for those of us lucky enough to have a roof over our heads, it is a place where we can live, eat, sleep, be protected from the elements and, if we choose, raise a family.

Trees, particularly those in and around old growth forests, offer similar benefits to a wide range of animals and other plants. Habitat trees develop hollows as they age and are used to live, breed or shelter in by a wide range of wildlife species.

These trees also provide food and nourishment from seeds, fruit, pollen, nectar, leaves etc., as well as the opportunity to forage for insects and other organisms living on or under the bark.

Unfortunately these days many big, old habitat trees are being logged and/or cleared, and therefore threaten the existence of so many creatures who call them home. It takes at least 100 years for a tree to begin developing large hollows – think about that…..

In fact, two threatened species from Victoria are featured on the “Habitat Tree” t-shirt – the Leadbeater’s Possum and the Helmeted Honeyeater. These are Victoria’s State animal and bird emblems respectively, yet are being pushed to extinction through removal of habitat.

Much needs to be done to protect these and so many more species – they don’t have a voice….but you do.

I hope that your purchase of this t-shirt will start a conversation between you and your family and friends about the importance of retaining our old habitat trees now, and into the future.

Every purchase of a “Habitat Tree” t-shirt means one Australian native tree will be planted on your behalf.

You CAN make a difference….
